Richard B. Brewer
President and Chief Executive Officer

Richard B. Brewer has more than 30 years of experience in the biotechnology industry, developing and commercializing drugs for major unmet medical needs, particularly in heart disease. Prior to joining ARCA, Mr. Brewer was managing partner of Crest Asset Management, providing guidance to and investing in biotechnology opportunities.

Before that, Mr. Brewer was president and CEO of Scios, Inc., where he led the successful approval and launch of Natrecor® (nesiritide), the first new drug for acute heart failure in more than a decade, and guided Scios through a $2.4 billion merger with Johnson and Johnson.

Before Scios, Brewer served as chief operating officer of Heartport, a cardiovascular device company developing minimally invasive approaches to major heart surgery. Prior to that, he spent over a decade at Genentech in various management positions, including senior vice president of sales and marketing and senior vice president of Genentech Europe and Canada.

Mr. Brewer holds a B.S. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and an M.B.A. from Northwestern University.

Michael R. Bristow, M.D., Ph.D, Founder
Chairman and Chief Science and Medical Officer

Dr. Bristow's principal focus is on ARCA's clinical programs and FDA approval, and on ARCA's later stage drug development and in-licensing programs. Dr. Bristow is Professor of Medicine and the former Head of Cardiology, University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. He is also the Co­-Director of the Colorado Cardiovascular Institute.

Dr. Bristow is the author of over 350 reviewed papers and chapters on heart failure/cardiomyopathy and other cardiovascular diseases, and is responsible for key breakthroughs in heart disease treatment, including the introduction of beta-blockers and the discovery of key molecular mechanisms underlying heart failure.

Dr. Bristow was the principal founder, the former CSMO and a director of Myogen, Inc., acquired in 2006 by Gilead Sciences, Inc.

Ann Lenich Hards, Ph.D
Executive Vice President Regulatory Affairs

Dr. Hards has over seventeen years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry at Sanofi-Aventis, Somatix Therapy Corporation, Pharmacia Inc. and Parke-Davis Pharmaceuticals, with fifteen years in regulatory affairs.

She held several senior management positions at Sanofi Pharmaceuticals, including Vice President Worldwide Cardiovascular and Thrombosis Regulatory Affairs; at Sanofi-Aventis, she was Vice President, Clinical Investigation Realization, with responsibility for aligning clinical development strategies with regulatory approval standards.

Dr. Hards has played a major role in twelve new NDA’s/major efficacy supplements, including the Plavix® approvals. She received her B.S. from Purdue University and a Ph.D. in Biophysics and Genetics from the University of Colorado.

Thomas A. Keuer
Executive Vice President of Pharmaceutical Operations

Mr. Keuer has over 25 years of pharmaceutical industry experience. Prior to ARCA, he was Senior Vice President of Insmed Therapeutic Proteins, with responsibility for the technical program and the Boulder, Colorado commercial manufacturing site. Prior to Insmed, he was Vice President of Engineering for Baxter Healthcare’s BioScience Division, with global responsibility for biopharmaceutical projects, and Vice President of Operations for Somatogen, Inc.

Mr. Keuer's primary expertise is in the area of Chemistry Manufacturing and Controls (CMC) for biopharmaceuticals, and he has played a major role in the successful scale-up, regulatory approval and commercial launch of products regulated by the CVM, CBER, CDER and the EMEA.

Mr. Keuer received his B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Texas and a M.S. degree in Biochemical Engineering from Rice University.

Christopher D. Ozeroff
Co-Founder, Executive Vice President, Business Development & General Counsel

Mr. Ozeroff was previously an equity partner with the international law firm of Hogan & Hartson LLP, and a founder of the Firm's Boulder office.

Mr. Ozeroff has served as counsel to numerous emerging companies and venture capital investors, in such areas as finance, acquisitions, public offerings and licensing. He is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Colorado Law School, and has served on a number of non-profit and advisory boards.

Mr. Ozeroff completed his undergraduate degree at Stanford University, and his law degree at the University of Chicago Law School.

J. David Port, Ph.D.
Scientific Co-Founder and Vice President of Research and Technology

Dr. Port is responsible for ARCA's target discovery and pharmaco-genetic research. In addition, Dr. Port is Professor of Medicine/Cardiology and Pharmacology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. His research activities focus on the regulation of beta-adrenergic receptor function and gene regulation in the context of heart failure.

Dr. Port has been actively involved with the peer review process for both the American Heart Association and the National Institutes of Health, and is an author on over 150 original manuscripts, review articles, book chapters, and abstracts.

Dr. Port received a B.S. in biology and a Ph.D. in pharmacology from the University of Utah and post doctoral training in molecular pharmacology at SUNY Stony Brook.

Randall St. Laurent
EVP of Commercial Operations

Mr. St. Laurent brings over 20 years of sales and marketing experience to Arca. Over the past six years, most recently as vice president of commercial development at Scios, a Johnson & Johnson company, Mr. St. Laurent played a pivotal role in the successful launch and commercialization of Natrecor, a recombinant form of BNP for acute heart failure. During his tenure at Scios he managed the sales and marketing effort.

Prior to Scios, Mr. St. Laurent directed sales at Transkaryotic Therapies in Cambridge, MA and for nearly a decade in increasing roles at Genentech in New Orleans, LA.

Mr. Laurent received a bachelor's degree with a major in marketing from the Ohio State University.

Patrick M. Wheeler
Senior Vice President, Finance

Mr. Wheeler has over 10 years of finance and operations experience for both public and private companies. Most recently, he served as Director of Finance for Dharmacon, Inc., a Fisher Scientific, Inc. life science company, where he oversaw treasury, risk management, strategic financial & operational planning, and served key roles in contract negotiations, accounting, and M&A.

Previously, Mr. Wheeler was Manager of Financial Planning at ChannelPoint, Inc., an ecommerce software provider, and before that he held accounting and finance positions at Foundation Health Systems, Inc., a publicly-traded HMO.

Mr. Wheeler has a B.A. in economics from the University of Colorado and an MBA from Regis University.
